As long as the COVID-19 outbreak doesn’t have anything to say about it, the “Cajun Crown” is set to be handed out in early September.
For the first time since 2016, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette vs. McNeese State University rivalry is set to return to open the football season Sept. 5 at Cajun Field.
Overall, McNeese State leads the series, putting up a 20-16-2 record against UL in the 38 match ups dating back to 1951. UL has won the last four meetings.
The season-opener will mark the beginning of the Frank Wilson era for McNeese, as the New Orleans native was officially hired as the Cowboys’ next head coach in January.
McNeese went 7-5 last season, while UL is coming off an impressive 11-3 campaign that was capped with a 27-17 LendingTree Bowl victory over Miami (OH) on Jan. 6.
