LAFAYETTE – Marshall Skinner smacked two home runs and Cole McConnell added a pair of runs batted in as the Acadiana Cane Cutters defeated the Round Rock Hairy Men, 8-5, at Fabacher Field Sunday night.
The victory clinched the three-game weekend series win and marked the team’s fourth win in the past five games, improving their Texas Collegiate Leage season record to 10-12.
Nik Millsap (Northwestern State) picked up the win on the mound for the Cane Cutters, tossing 4.2 innings of scoreless ball, surrendering just a pair of base hits and striking out three batters. MaKhail Hilliard (LSU) and Matthew Adams (Southern Miss) combined in relief.
The Cane Cutters are set to open a three-game road series with the Victoria Generals (7-17) Tuesday night before coming back home for the club’s final regular season home series against the Texarkana Twins (4-18) next weekend.
Skinner’s (Northwestern State) first homer of the night came in the first at bat of the bottom of the third inning, putting Acadiana on the board first. His second homer in the bottom of the eighth broke a 5-5 deadlock and put the Cane Cutters ahead for good.
Designated hitter McConnell (Louisiana Tech) went 3-for-5, including a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth that capped the scoring of the night.
