It felt like just moments after being signed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ practice squad, he was heading to a new city.
But it appears the former University of Louisiana at Lafayette star running back Raymond Calais, Jr. has found his home for 2020.
Calais, a 22-year-old Breax Bridge native, was selected by Tampa Bay in the seventh round of the NFL Draft this spring after four successful seasons with the Ragin’ Cajuns. He ran for a career-high 886 yards with six touchdowns on 117 carries as a senior in ’19.
Less than a day after being named to Tampa’s practice squad, the Rams poached him from the Bucs by signing him to their 53-man roster Sunday, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Even if he’s not used as a running back right away, Calais could make an impact on special teams for L.A. considering he earned All-Sun Belt Conference First Team honors as a return specialist. He was also named to the Third Team at RB.
Keep an eye out for the young’n this season.
